SINETHEMBA COMMUNITY GARDEN

Sinethemba Community Garden was started in order to provide fresh vegetables such as spinach, carrots, peppers and pumpkin for the soup kitchen and the community. The community garden provides opportunities for individual empowerment and skills training such as; planting and maintenance, using produce to create a balanced diet and identifying community members in need to receive vegetables from the garden. Nolitha saw the need to approach City Parks and requested the land to use for gardening, upon City Parks approval they then offered to fence the yard and put gates, they went as far as involving ABALIMI BEZEKHAYA on the project to train these women and gave out all the start up kit to do the gardening. As the project grew City Parks then employed five women from the community project formally.

SWEEPING AND CLEANING

Nolitha Ndalasi the founder of Sinethemba Community Organisation started by introducing the cleaning of streets, and during that time HIV/AIDS transmission was very high and people were throwing out used condoms on the streets where children could easily access. She then decided to take a stand as one of the kids from the local area had found a used condom and swallowed it, and had to be rushed to the emergency room (Hospital). The cleaning project has since stood out for all the women in the community as they saw how it was beneficial for their families and they were touched by the approach and many of them volunteered to be part of the project. The municipality then decided to assist them with the necessary training and equipment, five women from those who had joined to volunteer were later employed by the municipality through this programme.

SINETHEMBA SOUP KITCHEN

Nolitha Ndalasi the founder of SINETHEMBA COMMUNITY PROJECT saw the need to cook for the women who work in the Sinethemba Community Garden as she realised that they don't carry lunch due to lack of food from home, the soup kitchen ended up benefitting the entire community more especially those who were taking treatment. This was so because most of them were defaulting on their chronic medication due to hunger, till this day Sinethemba Soup Kitchen is feeding +-300 people per day. The soup kitchen serves balanced meals everyday to young people affected by HIV/AIDS, the recipient number has since increased from the day it was founded. The food is cooked and served by the friends of SINETHEMBA COMMUNITY PROJECT who volunteer with their time in the SINETHEMBA HOUSE, this house also serves as a place of gathering for the women's crisis group.

ITHEMBA LEARNING CENTRE (ECD)

ITHEMBA LEARNING CENTRE was formally registered in 2018 as it was previously known as the SILULUTHO YOUTH PROGRAMME. Ithemba Learning Centre currently has 100 children ranging from the age of 0-6year, and 150 children in the afterschool care programme which assists children from the ages of 7-20years in homework's. The centre focusses on children who do not have parents and children in need staying within the community of HARARE KHAYELITSHA. This whole programme was established when Nolitha the founder noticed children that were doing their homework's outside the SINETHEMBA SOUP KITCHEN and they would often ask for assistance from anyone passing by. As the number of children who needed assistance grew she then saw the need to approach the DSD who advised and assisted her to start the ECD CENTRE to help take care of children from families with difficulties in looking after them, the department also advised her to start the afterschool care programme and assist the children in need and also work with nearby primary schools. ITHEMBA LEARNING CENTRE generates income through fundraising activities, funding from government sources, community members, friends and supporters.

SINETHEMBA HOME CARE BASE PROGRAMME

SINETHEMBA COMMUNITY PROJECT has then started a home care base programme with the support from the GERMAN EMBASSY, this programme was meant to monitor how their beneficiaries are taking the treatment given to them in order to reduce defaulting. During the visits the care givers noticed that there were children that were not attending school because they have no food to eat, literally nothing to eat at home. 15 unemployed drop out young people were trained in the HOME CARE BASE to deliver hot meals, clean, bathe and serve medication and also do follow ups to check or rather tend to the ill people and elderly. They are now formally employed in different health sectors.

BAKING, POULTRY FARMING, SEWING, KNITTING AND CRAFTS

Sinethemba Community Organisation generates it's income through intercultural tourism projects, crafts sales, pottery making project, detergent soap making, community baking services, gardening services, sewing projects as well as poultry farming. The BAKING project is a skill offered to gender based violence victims and survivors by the Sinethemba Community Organisation to assist them in rebuilding their self confidence, sustainability and independence. On the SEWING project we empower these women with skills that will also help in selling their gourmets within the community, we also specialise in matric dance dresses and suits. We make school uniforms and tracksuits, personal orders are also taken to assist the organisation financially. The ARTS AND CRAFTS project is also part of our development and skills training programme to empower the youth of Harare Khayelitsha and create job opportunities. The chickens from the POULTRY FARMING project lay eggs then those eggs are re-sold for the income of the Sinethemba Organisation and so forth with the baking team.

Welcome to SINETHEMBA COMMUNITY PROJECT, it is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (042 735NPO) it was registered officially in 2005.
Through the grassroots involvement and transformation leadership, Sinethemba has contributed to lasting change in Khayelitsha, Sinethemba has encouraged members of the Harare community to participate in uplifting their own community.

Leading by example, Nolitha Ndalasi the founder of Sinethemba has started and managed a number of community development projects such as Neighbourhood Patrols; Community Garden and Soup Kitchen to feed the youth affected by HIV/AIDS. In parallel a crisis support group was initiated for abused women and in 2007 the Silulutho Youth Programme was launched which has been formally registered and now known as ITHEMBA LEARNING CENTRE.

Sinethemba Community Project generates income through intercultural tourism projects, craft sales, pottery making and community catering services. Sinethemba has been receiving donationations from private donors abroad, individuals, NGO`s, some funding from government sources, community members volunteering, supporters who donate by their time in assisting.

Nolitha Ndalasi the founder of Sinethemba saw the need to open an ECD for children within the community which is known as ITHEMBA LEARNING CENTRE, it was formally registered as a Non-Profit making organisation in 2018.
The project was started to assist those mothers who survived abuse with which have jobs and nowhere to leave their children.
